Today I !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! in search of 2011+ V8 Caprices and found 2 or 3 in the low to mid 20k range. NPOCP? They don't look bad IMO and have a pretty liveable interior as far as a police pkg goes.

Lol I just did this too after seeing the "Fastest Cop Car" article. I think it's a NP since the SS is ~$45k and is roughly the same thing drivetrain-wise.

Hmm. I thought I read that these wouldn't be sold to civilians when they were retired from police duty.

CP. I've seen them at CarMax in the teens, and we all know how much those guys mark things up.

Is it impersonating an officer if you never use the light bar? Because NP.

Never mind, scratch that. I'd happily pay more for a badass charger in all black with a brush guard ….. The intimidation factor is maxed out with this car.

New dream car idea, this ^ car, Hellcat swapped.

There's a used '09 state Charger being sold near me . I read up on the police package, it sounds awesome. No brush guard, but doesn't mean it can't be added...

I've only seen Caprices being sold with the shifter in the middle. I think maybe the police version has the shifter on the steering column....

Yeah, I think you'd be in SS performance territory with a few upgrades.

I just wanna give it a lopey-ass cam and a mean sounding exhaust.

Some of the cars at my link have some police gear on it still, like a laptop mount and a search light. The shifter is deliberately off to the side to make room for cop-stuff.

Maybe yes, maybe no, it seems a few have trickled onto lots though. Maybe us civies would have trouble acquiring them though?

Did the cop cars get performance or handling upgrades?

I believe it was both . From what I understood, its similar to how the Crown Vic was modified from police use. Its essentially a Charger, but a better built one meant for chasing down perps [in style] and taking a beating from the driver.

Kinja'd!!! zeontestpilot > Yowen - not necessarily not spaghetti and meatballs
07/22/2014 at 16:51

Kinja'd!!!0

That's curious. Because I know crown vic's are stripped of the light bars and such so no one can impersonated them. It does bring up the legality of owning one like this .

Yup, still impersonating an officer. All lights must be removed.

Apparently this Chevy is a "trustworthy pearl" >_<

ANyways, yes, I have to wonder if that's legal...

The one I nearly bought for my wife had 12k/miles on it, I think.

Ah, so it seems buying them used is no problem, I just question some of the equipment some of them have... If they are legal, it would sure cause everyone driving near you to frantically slow down.

When you say mid 20's I can't help but think of all the better cars available in that range. Unless you just have a thing for old police cars.

Yea, the main difference would be the interior quality and other creature comforts. Also, the new SS will have magnetic ride control and an optional manual trans.

Haha, not really. So yeah, these need to get into the mid-teens.

I picked up my SHO in the low-twenties and I'd do it again instead of one of these at 22k+.

El Manuel. In 5-7 years I would consider trading in my SHO on a manual SS, but who knows what I'll be doing in live when that time rolls around.

This explains why nobody is buying the SS at $44k. Total CP

I think your in MI like me, right? Around in Howell, you'll pass them and be none-the-wiser. They are literally so 'generic' looking (as opposed to a charger), you'll think it's just another car on the road them *bam* , sirens.

The other day driving around, I saw a brown undercover one that pulled over a truck with an RV. I passed the caprice and couldn't believe it was a police car, it was so...unassuming....

They definitely are, I agree.

I live on the west side of the state in GR. Don't think I've seen a whole lot of the Caprice, but then maybe I didn't notice, haha.

I'd actually like to get a police spec Taurus with the SHO engine in it. Durability, cop suspension, cop tires, and blue brothers worthy.

I am the owner of the 09 Charger pictured above. The brush guard can easily be added back on. The mounting brackets are still there.

Huh, curious how you found this post then. Aren't brush guards usually welded to the body, to give it more rigid support?
